Day 3 - 72 Hours in Sumi and KC's Lives
By Jitu and Raksha Modi
Wednesday, June 24, 2024 and Thursday, June 25.

Beer and lunch in a restaurant by the river in the Rochester park.! Another gorgeous day!!

KC was having such a good time and discussing his future projects with us and so focused in life! Very impressive!

3:00 to 5:00 pm:
Every Wednesdays, Eric Moening- the Hospice Volunteer comes to sit with Sumi so KC could go out. But KC ends up spending time with Eric. KC enjoys his company the most since Eric is an engineer by profession too. Eric read My Journey with Sumi book, word by word, and also suggested lot of edits for the second edition of the book.

While we were out for lunch, Sumi was relaxing at home.

A music therapist form Hospice comes very day to play music for Sumi. When a previously recorded song from the Hospice music therapist was played, Sumi was very attentive.

Selina - the evening caregiver came that evenings so we could go out!

In the evening, we went to JB and Bharti Shah’s house for dinner. Bharat and Bharti Doshi, Bharti Doshi’s brother and his wife visiting from India and Bharat and Sheela Trivedi also joined for the dinner.

After Sumi’s morning routine is completed, she rests in Broda chair.

Sumi enjoying with me!! The response given by her is just amazing!! Enjoyed every minute spent with her!

On our last day for lunch, KC made lightly spices (Jitu does not eat spicy food) and seared Mahi Mahi and roasted corn on the cob which was just out of this world! Jitu enjoyed the Mahi Mahi a lot.

Around 2:00 pm, Raquel Love, Hospice social worker came (she comes very other Thursdays).

KC played his WUNC podcast for Raquel.  It was very touching at the end when KC reads the Alzheimer’s poem… “Please don’t ask me to remember”!

All those who heard the Podcast…. Everyone got teared up!! You know what am talking about!!

Final Goodbye:

Sooman Kansal, KC neighbor, came on our last day to sit with Sumi when KC dropped us at the
airport.

Have to end by showing how detail-oriented KC is. He had planned the 3 Days with us!! Only KC would think like this! We LOVE you KC!

Overall, Kudos to KC for taking care of Sumi 24/7 with so much love and diligence! He is surrounded by loving professional caregivers!  KC calls them his sherpas!

Sumi loves all her helpers but her mysterious recognition of KC is mind boggling! You have to see it to believe it! We feel blessed to experience it personally!

One thing I noticed Eric loved talking to KC and borrowed the Blue Zone from KC and there is lot of mutual respect and learning between them!

Sumi seems very relaxed in her home environment and KC you made the best decision for keeping her at home!

KC’s tenacity and painstaking care of Sumi is remarkable!

Hat’s off to you Buddy.

We are very fortunate to have you in our lives!

Remember we are only a phone call away for any help!!❤️
